PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES 2006

STRATEGY FOR CIVIL RESPONSABILITY

We will work to stimulate the full citizenship of people with disabilities and to stimulate change in social conduct.

Social Impact Campaign
This Campaign aims to collect 500,000 signatures, to demonstrate to the government the general demand for the full application of the disability laws. Furthermore, we hope to introduce the issue to the public opinion and increase the cooperation of our citizens.

We will analyze the way in which mainstream media (written journalism) depict people with disabilities

Monitoring on Media & Disability
This project consists of monitoring and analyzing the manner in which Argentine journals depict the issue of disability. Along with the data we discover, we will be able to form a general understanding of the paradigms of our society; allowing us to refine the changes we want to make. The results will be published and we will hold workshops to analyze the conclusions.

Workshops

Journalism on Disabilities for NGO’s and journalists
We will talk to journalists and students of journalism to reinforce the principles of human rights, equal opportunity, and social inclusion when writing about disabilities.

Create awareness amongst the business and the public sectors
This workshop is intended to generate awareness in the business and public sectors concerning disabilities both in the general sense and in the labor force.

For advertising agencies
This workshop will speak with advertising agencies about the use of people with disabilities in advertising not as a “positive” or “negative” factor, but rather as consumers that should be adressed.

In universities
This workshop has two focuses. The first offers courses on Accessible Web Design, to Graphic Design students and related careers. The second focus is to create awareness of the issue of disabilities to Human Resource students, with the goal of influencing their employment decisions in the future.

Second National Contest of Creative Campaigns on Disability: “Creating Change 2006”
This is the second year in a row that we hold a Contest of this kind for students of advertising, communications, and design. The projects that will be presented should focus on informing the community of the value people with disabilities have to contribute to their society. The aim of this prize is to encourage young people –and the future decision-makers regarding the patterns of “beauty”, “normality” and “what is acceptable”, that will appear in the media- to get involved in the change in disability. For this Contest, we are encouraging the students to create advertisements for non-traditional spaces. The winning project will be used as La Usina’s Third Annual Campaign to Create Awareness.

Third Annual La Usina Awareness Campaign in Dissability
La Usina presents a new Awareness Campaign each year, wich sends a message of respect and value of diversity and the capacities of people with disabilities to the community. The Campaign is presented through television and radio ads, in public thoroughfare and printed media, as well as the Internet.

“Invisible Encounters. A Reality. Live it!”
We continue in 2006 with this project to generate awareness, that we presented in 2005 at the renowned Recoleta Cultural Center in the city of Buenos Aires and the Historic Cabildo in the city of Córdoba, in which we received 1,800 visitors. In 2006, La Usina will bring this unique experience -which consists of a literary performance, a place for discovery and dialogue between different people- to the cities of Mendoza and Rosario.

“DiverDiverso. Come and play!”
In an alliance with the Petrobras company and the Argentine Association of Wheelchair Tennis (AATA), we invite the community to participate in tennis workshops set during the weekend in public squares, and play with the AATA-team (the participants can choose to play standing or in wheelchairs that we provide). Through this activity, we hope to convey a message of integration associated to a fun activity like tennis. We started this project in 2005 in Buenos Aires, and in 2006 it will visit different towns and communities.
