As part of its commitment to contribute to cultural change regarding the disability issue, La Usina launches every year, since 2004, a National Awareness Campaign, which seeks to help revert the partialized –and often prejudiced- image that is attached to people with disabilities.
With much effort and thanks to the contribution of numerous organizations who help produce the Campaign (as well as media outlets that agree to show it once it is launched), we are the only disability organization in Argentina that presents a Campaign of this kind with continuity, every year. Convinced that cultural attitudes are often at the root of many of the problems that people with disabilities face, through our Campaigns we hope to help these citizens achieve full participation in all areas of society in which they wish to partake.
“Creating Change” Annual Contest for University Students
Since 2005, the Annual Awareness Campaign is preceded by a National Contest, called “Creating Change”. The Contest is targeted at communications, advertising and design students who are asked to create La Usina’s new Awareness Campaign for the year. By doing so, La Usina hopes to inform universities and youth about disability issues, specifically catering to those who, in the future, will create media images of what is accepted and what is considered “beautiful”. In its first edition, the contest surpassed their organizer’s expectations:
-931 persons registered to download the contest guidelines;
-53 universities helped spread the word about the contest;
-47 projects were entered; 12 cities of 5 different states participated.
